Flanking & Skim

Coating

Flanking refers to the side wall sections where two walls meet, essentially the edges or corners between adjacent walls, which require extra attention when painting to ensure a smooth, even finish without visible lines or gaps between the different wall surfaces. Our artisans prepare and paint the sides of a wall where it connects to another wall to create a seamless look.

Skim coating , a level-5 drywall finish,  is the process of smoothing over worn or damaged drywall with a thin coat of diluted joint compound in order to improve the look of the surface. This is often one of the primary steps in a remodel of a new or existing home to repair damage and improve appearance of walls that come with different kinds of coating, which includes orange peel and knockdown texture.

It can also be applied in the form of either a single layer to touch up a small area or multiple layers to provide a smooth surface with which to work. Once the skim coat is applied, the surface is then often retextured or painted after creating a fresh surface.
